Call of Duty: Warzone Guides: Weapon XP, Loadouts and Skill Divisions

1 guide for Call of Duty: Warzone. The statistics side of the game (what it records and what it leaves out) is on the Warzone statistics page.

Orientation

Progression, and why it is not the same as improvement

READ / 01

Warzone splits two things most shooters merge: how good a player is and how much a player has unlocked. Weapon levels, attachment unlocks and camouflage challenges all move on time spent with a specific weapon, and none of them moves because a player got better. The single guide for this title is about the first of those — what actually earns weapon experience, and why a weapon carried in the second slot and never fired earns almost nothing regardless of how the match went.

That distinction matters for reading the ranked ladder too. Ranked Play runs on Skill Rating with a partial reset each season, and Top 250 is a live leaderboard position rather than a tier a player keeps. Losing a place in the Top 250 is not a demotion; it means somebody else is currently above the threshold. Any source that describes Top 250 as a rank is describing something the game does not have.

The published figures for this title reward a longer view than a single session. Kill-death ratio across a battle royale is a weaker signal than it looks, because a match that ends in a placement without a fight counts the same as a match spent avoiding every engagement, and both are legitimate ways to play. Damage and placement read more honestly together than either does alone.

The order to read in is the guide first, then the statistics page. The guide tells you which actions the progression system is counting; the statistics page tells you which figures are worth watching once you stop chasing unlocks.

The library is intentionally narrow for this title: one guide, on the one subject where the game's own systems are counter-intuitive enough that guessing produces the wrong answer. Loadout and map advice for Warzone dates faster than almost anything else on this site, because the map itself is replaced, and a guide confidently describing a rotation on a map that no longer exists is worse than no guide.

The rest of what a Warzone player wants is on the statistics page rather than here. Which figures separate by mode, which pool across battle royale and resurgence, and which ones the game resets between seasons are all questions about the record rather than about how to play, and they are answered there.

Context

What Warzone records

RANK / 03

Warzone counts a downed enemy and a finished enemy differently. Damage-based figures reward players who break plates without securing kills, which is why damage and KD often disagree.

The headline figures for this title are kd ratio, wins, average damage, gulag win rate, longest streak, and they come from activision account stats, which the player can switch to private at any time, and many do.

LADDER

Ranked Play skill divisions. Bronze through Diamond hold three divisions each. Iridescent is a rating threshold rather than a division, and Top 250 is a live leaderboard slot, not a tier you keep. Ranked Play resets per season with a partial rating carry-over; the battle-royale playlist keeps lifetime totals.

The share of players sitting in each tier moves every season, so no fixed percentage is printed here, because a number published once would be wrong within weeks. The order is the part that holds.

Compare

Two ladders, and why Warzone is the outlier of the three

AXIS / 04

Of the three battle royales here, Warzone is the only one that runs a ranked ladder alongside a playlist that keeps lifetime totals and never resets. Fortnite resets ranked each chapter season while lifetime totals accumulate separately, and Apex Legends resets Ranked Points each split with the entry cost scaling by tier. Warzone carries part of its rating over instead, which means a season-two rating is not a clean measurement of season-two play, and comparing two players across a season boundary quietly compares two different amounts of carry-over.

The top of the ladder is the other place this title behaves unlike its siblings. Apex ends in Apex Predator, the top 750 accounts per platform recalculated continuously, and Warzone ends in Top 250, a live leaderboard slot. Neither is a tier a player keeps, and both get described as ranks constantly. Iridescent, the band below Top 250, is a rating threshold rather than a division. A source that treats any of the three as a badge is describing something the game does not issue.

Two Warzone figures have no equivalent anywhere else on this site, and that is worth knowing before benchmarking anything. Gulag win rate measures a mechanic no other title has, so there is nothing to compare it against; longest streak is bounded by a respawn system the other battle royales do not share. Neither travels. What does travel badly rather than not at all is kill-death ratio, because lobby size and the availability of a second life change what a death costs. The metrics reference covers which of the seven recurring figures are portable between titles and which are not.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

FAQ / 05

What does the single Warzone guide cover?

Weapon experience: which actions the game counts toward it and which it ignores. It is the one Warzone subject whose internal logic is unlikely to be guessed correctly.

Why is there only one guide for this title?

Because the map is periodically replaced. Rotation and loadout material for Warzone has the shortest useful life of anything on this site, so the library covers the progression systems, which outlive a map.

Is Top 250 a rank?

No. It is a leaderboard slot recalculated live, so leaving it reflects another player's rating rather than a demotion. Iridescent below it is a threshold rather than a division with places inside it.

Does a high weapon level indicate skill?

No. Progression here tracks time spent with a particular weapon, while performance sits in the five headline figures on the statistics page. Keeping the two apart is why the guide exists.
