Top 4 Fortnite Tips To Win 1vs1 Duels

In Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4 & Xbox One) you’ll often get involved in wild 1vs1 duels with other players. Find out 4 effective tips in our guide to win such battles!

In Fortnite: Battle Royale, 100 players fight alone or in small teams. Whoever remains at the end wins. Often you’ll catch your opponents on the wrong foot or you’ll be lucky to land and find good weapons rather than the unfortunate straggler.

But at the latest in mid- and especially in endgames there will be duels between you and enemies who know exactly that you are there and who are as well equipped as you are.

Tip 1 – Use The Altitude Advantage!

Not only in Star Wars: Episode III is it an advantage to have the altitude advantage. In Fortnite and almost all other shooters, it’s great when you’re high up. The advantages are obvious:

• You have a better overview from above
• You can throw grenades directly at your opponent.
• The most important thing: You can do ideal Headshots, because you can see the head of the enemy well. Even if you shoot at the same time, the enemy will get more damage from the headshot. Your head will be hard to hit.
• So ideally build a small fortress with stairs and walls around it. If you want to attack such a fortress, don’t build stairs to the enemy bastion. The enemy sees you so well and you have no cover. Build your own fortress, higher than the enemy. Then you can shoot him again from above.

Tip 2 – Counter and Disturb the Enemy

Every tactic in Fortnite has a counter. So if you have a good position and your opponent wants to build a staircase, just place a platform over the stairs. Then he can’t get up to you anymore. Instead he should go back to distance and can be shot down so easily.

Should an enemy surprise you, then immediately surround yourself with walls and build a small tower. While he’s still trying to find you, you can shoot him down from above.

Tip 3 – Keep moving!

If you’re watching professional players in Fortnite, you might notice one: They’re constantly moving! If you sit in one place for a long time, you’ll be an easy target. It’s also extremely useful to change your position all the time. If an enemy suspects you are behind a tree, but you’ve long since moved elsewhere, you can surprise and flank the enemy.

Use this also for sniper duels. Like a real sniper, change position after each shot. The enemy may be fixed at your old location. So you can target him in peace from your new position.

Tip 4 – Cover your back!

You should never be caught from behind or from the side. So make sure that you always have cover there. Always assume that someone is targeting you with a Sniper Rifle. It’s frighteningly often true!

If you’re in a battle and the enemy is chasing you, then both escape always put walls behind you. So you’ll confuse the enemy around you and be protected from fire. With some skill you can force the enemy to waste ammo and strike back at the right moment. Otherwise the same applies as in all games: Practice a lot and become good!
